Ball Chair
Swivel armchair with a spherical shell
H118 D110 (shell) D73 (base) P98 cm
Scratches and signs of wear on the shell. Interior upholstery peeling away in places, exposing the foam; corrosion beneath the base, around the central fixing
Designed in 1963 by the Finnish designer Eero Aarnio and unveiled in 1966 at the Cologne Furniture Fair, the Ball Chair has become one of the symbols of the space age and pop design. Its spherical shell, open on one side and resting on a swivelling base, creates a room within a room – a cocoon isolated from noise and the outside world. This armchair, based on Aarnio’s original model, retains its silhouette and proportions. It retains all the evocative power of a form that has become an icon, frequently appearing in films and popular culture.
