Design created for the furnishings of the Bonnefanten Museum in Maastricht, the Netherlands
(1990–1995).
Provenance: from Aldo Rossi’s studio, the artist’s personal collection.
Between 1990 and 1995, Aldo Rossi, winner of the 1990 Pritzker Prize, designed the Bonnefanten Museum in Maastricht, recognisable by its zinc-clad dome on the banks of the Meuse. For the interior design, he collaborated with the furniture manufacturer Unifor to create a range of furniture, including the ‘Convento’ cupboard: a storage unit with an architectural silhouette, reminiscent of a façade or a monastic cell. This prototype comes directly from the architect’s studio and his personal collection. An exceptional provenance, linking the object to the very genesis of one of Rossi’s major projects.
