Description
Aldo Rossi (1931–1997) Prometeo model Floor lamp Lacquered metal and methacrylate Produced by Artemide, Milan, manufacturer’s plate Model designed in 1996 H180 W50 D42 cm Provenance: from Aldo Rossi’s studio, the artist’s personal collection Bibliography: C. Spangaro, ‘Aldo Rossi Design 1960–1997’, exhibition catalogue, Silvana Editorial, 2022, pp. 216–217 Designed in 1996 for Artemide, one of the last objects designed by Aldo Rossi before his death in 1997, the Prometeo floor lamp is named after the Titan who stole fire from the gods to give it to mankind. This myth, transposed into domestic lighting, confirms the architect’s penchant for classical references and elementary forms, which can be seen in his designs for Alessi as well as in his buildings. This piece comes from Rossi’s studio and his personal collection. It is featured in the catalogue raisonné of his work as a designer.
