Aldo Rossi (1931–1997) Model AR2 Set of four chairs Beech wood, brass and cherry wood Produced by Bruno Longoni, Cantù Model designed in 1982–1983 H80 W37 D32 cm Provenance: from Aldo Rossi’s studio, the artist’s personal collection Exhibition: Milan, Museo del Novecento, ‘Aldo Rossi Design 1960–1997’, 29 April – 2 October 2022; a similar model is illustrated in the catalogue on p. 83 In the early 1980s, as his architectural work was gaining international recognition, Aldo Rossi began designing furniture in collaboration with craftsmen from Brianza. The AR2 chair, produced by Bruno Longoni in Cantù, a centre of Lombard cabinet-making, is one of his earliest designs: a simple design, true to the quest for distinctive and timeless forms that runs through his entire body of work. The piece was exhibited in 2022 at the Museo del Novecento in Milan, as part of the major retrospective dedicated to Rossi’s design work. This set of four comes from the architect’s studio.
