Description
ANDRÉ MONPOIX (1925–1976) ‘151’ model Pair of armchairs Black lacquered metal frame, seat and backrest upholstered with tensioned Isogaine strands Produced by Meubles T.V. Label Date of creation: 1954. H67 W57 D69 cm Good original condition. Yellowing of the Isogaine and traces of oxidation on the metal frames In the early 1950s, a generation of young French interior designers, from Pierre Guariche to André Monpoix, devised lightweight, economical and colourful furniture, suited to post-war housing. Model 151, produced in 1954 by Meubles TV, is a typical example: a slender black lacquered metal frame supports a seat and backrest formed from taut strands of Isogaine, an innovative plastic sheeting at the time that replaced rattan or upholstery. The result, transparent and graphic, makes the chair appear lighter. This pair, complete with its manufacturer’s label, retains its original Isogaine.
