Description
JAMES TURRELL (born 1943)
Mapping Spaces: Fumarole, 1987–1988
Aquatint, photogravure, etching, soft ground and drypoint on Hahnemühle paper. A black-and-white composition depicting the dark silhouette of Roden Crater beneath a luminous disc, surrounded by a sky criss-crossed with fine radiating lines. This print forms part of *Mapping Spaces*, a series linked to Turrell’s research into the site, light and perception.
Signed in pencil in the lower right-hand margin. Inscribed in pencil in the lower left-hand margin ‘I/X’ (photographic reading), presumably an artist’s proof I/10, outside the numbered edition of 35 copies.
