Description
Gottfried Salzmann* (born 1943 in Saalfelden) Landscapes, 1981 portfolio of 7 etchings etching on paper, 22 x 31 cm signed Salzmann, numbered 2/60 ESTIMATE €800 – €1,400 STARTING PRICE €800 Gottfried Salzmann studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna under Sergius Pauser and Maximilian Melcher, and later at the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts in Paris. Salzmann lives and works in France and is one of the most frequently exhibited contemporary Austrian artists. A characteristic feature of Salzmann’s work is his elevated perspective. Viewing from the air allows the artist to perceive cities in their vastness and grand scale, enabling a comprehensive and abstract grasp of what he sees. In his paintings, the blurred and abstract nature of distant views is combined with the precisely defined and meticulously executed details of close-up views. Gottfried Salzmann’s cityscapes are characterised by an empathetic yet analytical view of the urban landscape and metropolitan life. Other artists and styles: William Turner, Sergius Pauser, Max Melcher, École des Beaux-Arts Paris, watercolour, mixed media, charcoal drawing, printmaking, photographic landscapes, urban poetry, cityscapes, natural landscape, Impressionism, Post-Impressionist painting PLEASE NOTE: The purchase price comprises the highest bid plus the buyer’s premium, VAT and, where applicable, the artists’ resale rights fee and platform fee.
