A shepherd in his youth in the High Atlas, Saïd Aït Youssef developed a style of painting nourished by memories of childhood and rural Moroccan life. His work, noticed by Farid Belkahia and Jacques Azéma, was included in several group exhibitions in the 1970s. Dated 1975, this gouache belongs to the artist's most active period, marked by exhibitions in Casablanca and Agadir. Somewhere between a daily chronicle, a personal memory and pastoral poetry, his work oscillates in an immediate formal sincerity, far removed from academia.
