Mixed media and sand on panel, signed lower left Nabili (39 × 27⅛ in.)
Provenance :
Collection of the artist's family.
Trained in Casablanca and then at the École d'Art et d'Architecture in Marseille, Mohamed Nabili left Morocco in 1974 and travelled extensively in Europe and the Americas. These journeys had a lasting influence on his imagination, marked by the textures of Latin American walls and pre-Columbian motifs. Returning to Morocco in the early 1990s, he continued his research into signs, drawing inspiration in particular from the Tifinagh alphabet to develop a non-literal style of writing. His compositions, dominated by blues, blacks and whites, create a fluid space where forms appear rather than describe. Present in several major group exhibitions, including Art, a Serious Game at MACAAL (2021-2022) and the Attijariwafa Bank collections, Nabili has left behind a poetic body of work in which matter, rhythm and sign form a language with universal appeal.
