A Simplified Guide to Gardening, for the use of those who cultivate a small estate themselves, comprising a kitchen garden, a nursery, an orchard, espaliers, a landscaped garden, greenhouses, orangeries and a flowerbed; followed by a treatise on the harvesting, storage and shelf life of seeds, and on methods for controlling animals and insects harmful to gardening; third edition, entirely revised and expanded with details on ornamental flowers, trees and shrubs. Paris, Raynal [Adrien Egron’s Printing Works], 1824. In-12, VIII-276 pp., [1] f., 12 pp. of publisher’s catalogue, paperback bound in a printed blue paper dust jacket, with vignettes on the covers. The first edition was published in 1821. A scholar from Normandy, Louis-François Du Bois (1773–1855) saved numerous manuscripts from destruction during the Revolution. As a historian of Normandy, he also published several works on agriculture and the rural economy.
