LEGENDRE (Antoine). *La Manière de cultiver les arbres fruitiers* (On the Cultivation of Fruit Trees), dealing with nurseries, espaliers, counter-espaliers, bush-trained trees and standard trees. New edition. Rouen, Denis Du Chesne, 1664. In-16, [18] ff., [154] pp. incorrectly numbered 150, brown sheepskin, decorated ribbed spine, red title page, red edges (contemporary binding). Leather missing from the upper cap and one upper joint, covers rubbed, some faint water stains. Originally published in 1652, this work is the first treatise on silviculture published in the 17th century. It was subsequently, curiously, mistakenly attributed to Robert Arnauld d’Andilly following a note in the 1716 edition, despite the author’s name being correctly stated on the title pages of earlier printings.
