[MELON (Jean-François)]. A Political Treatise on Trade. New edition expanded by seven chapters, & in which the omissions of previous editions have been rectified. No place, no publisher, 1736. In-12, (4)-399 pp., marbled calf, decorated ribbed spine, title label, marbled edges (contemporary binding). Complete first edition, partly in its original state. Melon had been secretary to John Law and one of the trusted men of the East India Company. His work bears witness to Law’s ideas and system, which were to influence Quesnay and, through him, the theories of the physiocrats. Handwritten inscription dated 1789 on the front cover; otherwise a fine copy.
