Binding with painted decoration under mica. A New Year’s gift like few others, or A delightful blend of the prettiest things of all kinds [...] Printed in Falaise and available in Paris, Moutard, 1789.
In-16 (94 x 63 mm) ivory vellum, plain spine decorated with fleurons and gilt fillets, title label in red morocco leather, red morocco leather edging with gilt lace on the covers, featuring on the front cover a small pastoral scene painted in a medallion on a background of silver-coloured paper with cold-stamped decoration and cut-outs of gold, silver and bright red in fleurons (a few small losses or areas of oxidation) beneath a sheet of mica; traces of a removed medallion on the back cover against a background of silver-paper with cold-stamped decoration and remnants of a mica sheet; the whole housed in a red morocco case (some wear), blue silk endpapers; an element (presumably a small miniature) surrounded by fine gold braid has been removed from the back cover (contemporary binding).
