DORAT (Claude Joseph). A letter from Barnevelt, written in prison, to his friend Truman, preceded by a letter from the author. Paris, Jorry, 1763. In-8, marbled calfskin, plain spine with decoration, gilt fillet on the edges. First edition illustrated with a frontispiece, a vignette and a tailpiece by Eisen, engraved by De Longueil. The inspiration for this work in verse by Dorat was the tragedy *Barnevelt*, written in 1619 by John Fletcher and Phillip Masinger, a tragic play from the Elizabethan theatre. Dorat drew on this for his subject matter and adapted it to the French sensibility, as he explains in his preface. [Following this:] PEZAY (M.), *Zelis au bain*, a poem in four cantos.
