LONGUS. The Pastoral Love Story of Daphnis and Chloe. Paris, printed for the curious, 1757. Small quarto, red morocco, decorated ribbed spine, brown morocco title label, triple gilt fillet framing the covers, gilt edges (contemporary binding). The volume is illustrated with a frontispiece, 4 vignettes by Eisen, 4 end-piece engravings by Cochin, and 26 plates (out of 29; plates 8, 20 and 22 are missing). This edition reproduces the frontispiece and figures from the 1718 edition. It features Amiot’s French translation alongside another translation. A fine copy in contemporary morocco leather.
