New edition, expanded to include the *Anti-Cotton* and a critical history of this famous work. The Hague, Widow of Charles Le Vier, 1738. 2 volumes in-12, brown sheepskin, decorated ribbed spine (contemporary binding). Leather missing from one cover. Frontispiece engraved by Schley. New edition (based on the original of 1736) of this rare utopian novel attributed to Pierre Quesnel (1699–1774), an Oratorian from Dieppe who was persecuted for his opposition to the Jesuits and went into exile in Holland under the name of Bénard, librarian to the Stathouders. “QUESNEL (the brothers), of Dieppe, satirical writers, one of whom, the author of *L’Almanach du Diable*, died in the Bastille around 1739; the other, known as Abbé Pierre Quesnel, and whom Feller nicknames Bénard, was born, according to the Jesuit biographer, in 1699, and died in The Hague in 1774. The authors of the *Biographie universelle* (or rather Abbé Lecuy) have conflated these two brothers into a single person. […] An allegorical novel on the papal bull *Unigenitus*, which has been attributed to several authors. According to Falconet, it was written by one of the Quesnel brothers, with Ch.
