Aquanaut model watch, reference 5167A-001, with a self-winding mechanical movement, Patek Philippe calibre 324 S C. Cushion-shaped steel case, 40.8 mm in diameter. Rounded octagonal bezel with alternating satin-finished and polished surfaces; black embossed dial featuring the Aquanaut motif; luminescent white gold applied Arabic numerals; luminescent white gold baton hands; central seconds hand, date window at 3 o’clock, screw-down crown, transparent case back revealing the movement, black composite ‘Rubber strap’ with a pattern matching the dial, patented steel folding clasp.
History: the Aquanaut was launched by Patek Philippe in 1997 as a sportier, more contemporary watch than the Nautilus. The reference 5167, introduced in 2007 to mark the collection’s tenth anniversary, represents its most iconic modern evolution: larger proportions, a 40.8 mm case, a black embossed dial and a ‘Tropical’ composite strap.
Its design is clearly rooted in the heritage and inspiration of Gérald Genta’s Nautilus, particularly in the use of the cushion-shaped case and the gently curved bezel.
This model holds an important place in the brand’s recent history: it marks Patek Philippe’s move towards more everyday luxury watchmaking, whilst retaining the Geneva-based manufacture’s hallmarks of exquisite craftsmanship.
