Niké standing left, holding a crown. On either side, ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔPOY-ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ. Left, head of Silenus* and right monogram within wreath of foliage. ♦ Price 3735; Müller 729 Gold statere struck in Babylon (8.51 g) Rare variety. A very fine specimen. *The head of Silenus. Silenus is a character from Greek mythology, often associated with Dionysus, the god of wine. He is depicted with a bald head, thick eyebrows and a broad beard. His facial expression is often described as pathetic, with wide eyes and a hooked nose, giving him a terrifying yet comical appearance.
