Description
PARISII region south of Paris 1st century BC Head on the right with two large curls. Double grenetis. R/. Horse to left. In front, an inverted S. Above, a pearled rosette, surmounted by the squared motif known as "net decoration", between two volutes. Grènetis. ♦ DT 2421; Colbert de Beaulieu p. 142, 7; LT 7804; Blanchet 345 Tiers de statère d'or "au pégase" (class 1a) (1.98 g) Extremely rare. Slight chisel mark on the horse on the reverse. Very fine/T.B. These coins were offered to the cult of Sequana, the goddess of the Seine. One of the main Gallic deities, she was reputed to promote healing.
