ANCIENT GREECE - GREEK Attica, Athens. New-style tetradrachm in the name of the magistrates Mened-, Epigeno and Ophelos ND (135–134 BC), Athens. Obverse. Head of Athena Parthenos facing right, wearing the Attic helmet with crest, adorned with a Pegasus and floral decorations. Reverse. Α - ΘΕ / ME - NEΔ / EΠI / ΓENO / OΦEΛOY. Within a laurel wreath, an owl standing to the right on an amphora, on which the control letter is inscribed. In the fields, to the right and left, the names of the mint officials. In the field, to the left, Asclepius to the left and in the exergue (letters). HGC 4, 1602 – Thompson 350 c-e; Silver – 16.82 g – 32 mm – 12 h From a 2004 Monnaies d’Antan auction. Bearing the control letter Δ and, below, ΓΑ. On a wide blank, well centred, with complete designs. Slight grey patina. Superb, near-mint condition.
