ANCIENT GREECE - GREEK Saronic Islands, Aegina. Drachma featuring a tortoise, ND (350–338 BC), Aegina. Obverse: Tortoise. Reverse: Hollow square, a knuckle bone at the 3 o’clock position, and the 1 and 4 o’clock positions marked with a slash. HGC 6, 443 – Milbank Period V, pl. II, 16; Silver – 4.93 g – 17 mm – 7 h From the collection of Mr Stanislas J. de V., Serrure auction, 18 March 1910, lot 68 (Pl. II no. 68), subsequently acquired from the Banque Populaire du Nord in 1987. On an oblong blank, barely split by the strike. Wear is light and even, and the patina is a deep anthracite with bluish highlights. TTB / Superb.
