Sicily, Syracuse, Hiero II (274–216 BC). 16 litrai in the name of Philistis, widow of Hiero II, and in the name of KI-ND (240–215 BC), Syracuse.
Obverse: Head of Philistis, wearing a diadem and veiled, facing left; behind her, a wheat ear.
Rev. ΒΑΣΙΛΙΣΣΑΣ / ΦΙΛΙΣΤΙΔΟΣ / KI. A galloping quadriga to the right, driven by Victory standing to the right; an ear of wheat beneath the horses’ hooves.

With the swift two-horse chariot very well centred on the reverse, which is slightly concave. Antique grey patina, particularly on the obverse. Superb in mint condition.
Queen Philistis is known for her coins and for an inscription at the theatre in Syracuse, where she appears alongside Queen Nereis, wife of Gelon, the son of Hiero II
