Convention (1792–1795). Galle’s ‘Essai de Galle à la Liberté’, a heavy coin with a thick flan, by A. Galle, 1792 – Year I, Paris.
Obverse: LIBERTE FRANÇOISE. Bust of Liberty facing left against a pike surmounted by a Phrygian cap, signed GALLE and below L'AN I. DE LA R. F.
Reverse. Within an oak wreath: TO THE NATIONAL CONVENTION BY THE UNITED ARTISTS OF LYON. PURE BELL METAL STRUCK IN MDCCXCII.

4.2 millimetres thick and heavy. Surfaces show only slight corrosion and the coin is very slightly off-centre. Brown patina. Superb.
By André Galle (1761–1844), this was his first work upon his arrival in Paris, cast from the bronze salvaged from bells.
