FRANCE - FRANCE Directoire (1795–1799). Trial strike of the 1-centime Dupré coin by Philippe Gengembre, Special Strike (SP) Year 5 (1796), Paris. Obverse: LIBERTÉ – L’AN CINQ. Bust of the Republic facing left, wearing a cap of liberty; a star below. Reverse. In six lines above a floral motif: COUPÉ / ET FRAPPÉ / EN / MÊME TEMS / PAR / PH. GENGEMBRE. G.72a – Maz.383 – VG.528; Silver – 1.3 g – 17 mm – 4 h From the Richard Margolis collection, Stack’s Bowers auction, September 2025, lot no. 71217, and from the collection of King Farouk of Egypt, Sotheby’s auction, February 1954, lot no. 2175 (lot). PCGS SP Genuine Scratch-AU Detail (54844003). Special Strike (SP) on a silver blank. Well centred, with the axis at 4 o’clock. Minimal marks on the fields and slight signs of scratching on the obverse. Slightly uneven old grey patina.
