First Empire / Napoleon I (1804–1814). Trial coin of 100 francs in gold, struck in silver by Vassallo in 1807, Genoa.
Obverse: NAPOLEON EMPEREUR. Nude bust, three-quarter view facing right; signature VASSALLO.
Reverse: EMPIRE FRANÇAIS. Crowned eagle with outstretched wings to the left, perched on a thunderbolt, head to the right; below (date).

Dated type. Smooth edge. A few scratches and minimal marks. Attractive patina on the original lustre. Rare in silver. Superb in Proof condition.
The Vassallo trial coins were produced as part of a private initiative by the Genoa mint following its reopening. Inscribed in French with values in francs, these trial coins were intended for the national series. Several varieties exist
