Silver onion watch, the domed case in plain silver, the dial in chased and enamelled silver, the hours in Roman numerals, graduated in Arabic numerals for each 5-minute period, finely chased and signed SAMSON, mechanism held by balusters, finely chased cock and plate, the plate signed Samson, London, 12112. the outer case in silver worked with repoussé of a scene depicting a knight and his horse near a man holding a purse in an architectural setting. Master clockmaker J. Samson, (1760-1796) England second half of the 18th century - English hallmark with lion passing inside the case. weight : 92.77 g D (watch): 40 mm in good condition. D (with case): 51 mm Comparison: a similar model in the Metropolitan Museum, New York, donated by Joseph W. Drexel in 1889 89.2.90a, b, dated 1759.
