Description
A Louis XV period lacquer candy box set in 18k yellow gold, decorated with a miniature. Paris, 1765/1766. Marks of Jean-Jacques Prévost, indistinct master mark, French import mark for gold (1864-1893). Later miniature. Circular box with independent lid, sides and base in beige lacquer. The lid is decorated with a circular enamel plaque painted with a rococo scene depicting a gentleman seated at a table in front of a tent, served by two young girls. Fluted gilt silver mounting. Gold openwork mounts on the lid and back, embossed with ovolo and leaves. Interior lined with speckled brown composition. Diameter: 68 mm (2 11/16 in) Provenance: Christie's sale, 22 May 2001, lot 141. Sales charge 14.28 inc. No recoverable VAT.
