The years 1991–1992 marked a turning point in the artist’s work. In the spring of 1991, Chu Teh-Chun stayed in Venice with the painter Longobardi, where he rediscovered the works of Tintoretto, Titian, Giorgione, Carpaccio, Veronese… The Gulf War inspired him to create a dramatic composition, *Light Beyond the Scourges*, which was exhibited at the first Saint-Germain-en-Laye Arts Biennale on the theme of ‘Apocalypses’. He exhibited at the Galerie Patrice Trigano in Paris, the Galerie du Luxembourg, and the Musée d’Art Contemporain in Dunkirk, where his large-format canvases were displayed alongside sculptures by Féraud. In April–May 1992, Chu Teh-Chun and his wife undertook a long journey to the United States, visiting New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Miami and the rest of Florida, where they visited numerous museums and foundations, including the Dr Barnes Foundation, which made a particular impression on Chu. He exhibited a series of paintings from the 1960s at the Galerie Arlette Gimaray, the Galerie du Château in Meinier, Geneva, and then at the Galerie Pierre in Taichung, Taiwan. He produced a large lithograph to mark the centenary of the Olympic Games. A major monograph on Chu Teh-Chun by Pierre Cabanne was published by Éditions Cercle d’Art in 1993. He exhibited at the Galerie Régis Dorval in Le Touquet and the Galerie Protée in Toulouse. In December, he stayed in Taipei, where his works were exhibited, as well as in Taichung and Kaohsiung, and took the opportunity during this trip to visit the east coast of Taiwan.
