Description
Jean-Élisée PUIFORCAT (1897–1945) Lidded vessel with a circular white crystal base, faceted with bevelled edges, and a high band adorned with a silver ring; domed silver lid with radiating grooves around a circular, hollowed-out jade pull tab. Master silversmith’s mark and hallmark on the lid and on the band. Height: 15 cm – diameter: 22 cm / weight: 950 g Exhibition: a vegetable dish of the same design and with a very similar lid, but made entirely of silver, was exhibited at the International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts in Paris in 1925. History: the vegetable dish from the 1925 exhibition was donated by Jean-Elisée Puiforcat to the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris (inv. 25450.A) Bibliography: Françoise Bonneville, Jean Puiforcat, Éditions du Regard, Paris, 1986; a variant of our model is referenced and reproduced on p. 87.
