120. Jacob Andries Beschey (Anvers 1707-1786) Esther se préparant à paraître devant Assuérus signed 'J. Beschey' (lower left) oil on panel; stamped on the reverse with an unknown maker's mark 46,2 x 35.3cm (18 3/16 x 13 7/8in). Provenance Private Collection, Spain The present work is derived from Salomon Koninck's (1609-1656) original, sold at Christie's, London, on 13 December 2000, lot 50. The subject, taken from the book of Esther 2:12, depicts the Jewish queen adorning herself and summoning up her courage before her appeal to King Ahasuerus in order to save her people from persecution.
