Provenance Sale, Fraysse & Associés, Paris, 19 October 2004, lot 10 (as one of a pair) Private Collection, France Offered together with its pendant at the Fraysse & Associés sale (see Provenance), the present work was attributed on that occasion to an artist working in the circle of Mario Nuzzi, called Mario de' Fiori (1603-1673). According to family tradition, the painting had previously been regarded as the work of Jean-Baptiste Gayot Dubuisson (c. 1660-c. 1735), a pupil of Jean-Baptiste Monnoyer (1636-1699) and a contemporary of the latter's son, Antoine Monnoyer, with whom he shared the artistic legacy of the Monnoyer workshop. A closely related composition, with only minor variations, was sold at Tajan, Paris, 11 December 2013, lot 49.
