Provenance Private Collection, Europe Sale, Dorotheum, Vienna, 17 October 2012, lot 760, where acquired by Private Collection, UK Sale, Christie's, London, 20 May 2020, lot 5 Private Collection, France At the time of the Christie's sale (2020, see Provenance), Professor Sestieri confirmed the attribution to Orizzonte and dated the present work to circa 1720-30, the artist's mature period. The composition typifies van Bloemen's distinctive fusion of meticulous Flemish draughtsmanship and Italianate landscape painting, for which he achieved considerable acclaim in Rome at the beginning of the eighteenth century.
