Description
[NATURALIA] GOGOTTE. A natural concretion formed within the ‘Fontainebleau Sands’ geological formation, dating back approximately 30 million years. Composed of tiny grains of quartz cemented together by water seepage rich in calcium carbonate, gogottes take on otherworldly shapes. They have been a source of inspiration for many artists, both past and present (such as Charlotte Perriand...). They have been appreciated since the 17th century, as evidenced by their presence in the gardens of the Palace of Versailles. They are comparable to the ‘scholars’ stones’ (Gongshi), which appeared in the study rooms of China’s elite as early as the 7th century, serving as objects for escapism and meditation.
