Description
FRANCE, SECOND QUARTER OF THE 19TH CENTURY
A set of eleven cheese knives, the round-tipped blades etched with scenes of hunting and villages, each one different on one side, and with foliage-decorated handles on the other, reminiscent of the work of the Klingenthal factory. The ebony handles are embellished with gilded copper palmette motifs at the top and bottom, and a shield engraved with the initials ‘LP’ – probably standing for Louis-Philippe – framed by cut-out arabesque motifs in the style of Louis XIV.
Condition: blades pitted; one ferrule missing on one side of one of the knives; a copper band needs reattaching.
Length: 20.8 cm
