Jack Heuer was inspired to choose this name by the Carrera Panamericana, the most dangerous race of the mid 1950s. Since that time, Porsche has named its fastest and most successful innovative racing models ,Carrera'. A remarkable link between watches and motorsport.
A decade later Jack Heuer met with competitors like Willy Breitling, Hans Kocher
of Büren and the Dubois-Depraz company, and convinced them to participate
in a joint venture, developing an automatic chronograph. It was the start of an
ambitious partnership and was soon joined by the American watch producer
Hamilton, which had established a major stake in the Büren watch company.
Redesigned and well received the Carrera (reference 1153) increased
in size to house the new automatic movement. Specific was the repositioning of the winding crown to 9 o'clock emphasising that winding was no longer needed necessary. This watch shows a transitional dial with ,,Automatic Chronograph" on top of the date
window to communicate clearly the new invention.
A beautiful matching patina, original dial, crown and pushers complete this
rare collector's piece.
