The idea of the Reverso was sparked at a polo game in India in 1930. Cesar de Trey, a former denture dealer turned watch entrepreneur was on a trip in India when a Polo player showed him the broken glass on his watch. Seeing the broken watch gave Cesar de Trey the idea of a watch that could turn over to protect its crystal and dial from being damaged. Upon his return to Switzerland, Cesar de Trey joined forces with his business partner Jacques David LeCoultre and launched the first Reverso in 1931. The Parisian engineer Rene-Alfred Chauvot was commissioned by LeCoultre and Jaeger to construct the first Reverso.
