A sumptuous embroidered chalice veil, Louis XIII period,
plum-coloured marbled satin, with dazzling gold and silver embroidery evoking goldsmith’s work, in guipure and couching stitch using filé, lame, cannetille and sequins. The centre features an embroidered IHS monogram surmounting the nails of the Passion, set against a halo in relief; framed by lilies and foliage motifs. The edge is trimmed with gold and silver bobbin lace. Satin lining (slight wear), 58 x 59 cm.
