Description
A replica of the ‘Meuble d’été’ from the bedroom of Marie-Antoinette, Dauphine, at Versailles, woven by Charton in 1771 after a design by Gondoin, Manufacture Tassinari & Chatel, Lyon, c. 1920, cream taffeta brocaded with multicoloured silk, featuring a design of cascading bouquets of peonies, ranunculus, morning glories, hydrangeas and honeysuckle, crowned with an imperial fritillary. Display cut, showing the beginning and end of the weave (a few small stains), bearing a customs seal, 200 x 165 cm.
