Description
A replica of the tapestry depicting the Four Parts of the World, delivered by the merchant Michel to the Garde-Meuble in 1784, Tassinari-Chatel Manufactory,
lampas with a sky-blue satin border, silver-grey allegorical design based on a work by J-G Picard (1748–1818). Africa is represented by a lion hunt; Europe is embodied by a helmeted Minerva holding an arrow and a shield; two Indians facing each other, seated on a rock, symbolise America; an Eastern dignitary riding a camel evokes the East. 10 x 0.56 m.
This famous lampas was re-woven by the Tassinari-Chatel Manufactory from 1970 onwards for the presidential residences; here it is shown in its original colours.
