Originally from Russia, it was in France that he found success as an artist, and in his day he was better known than Picasso. Initially a Futurist, then a Constructivist, and later a Cubist, the work he produced towards the end of his life—as is the case here—is closer in style to that of Vuillard or Bonnard.
