Description
Tourism – After Adolphe Mouron Cassandre (1901–1968). Nord Express. London, Brussels, Paris, Liège, Berlin, Warsaw, Riga. Printed by Bedos, Paris. 102.2 × 70 cm. Original poster, lithograph. Grade A.
This is the 1980 reprint and one of the most famous images in the world of rail travel. Created by the sleeper carriage company, the primary aim of this route was to connect Paris with St Petersburg in Russia. With growing success, the route expanded to include another service departing from London. This is, in fact, what the artist has depicted at the bottom of the poster, listing the stops along the way, such as Brussels, Berlin, Warsaw, Liège and Riga.
