Three Works by Władysław ŚLEWIŃSKI (1854-1918) from the Primel-Buffetaud collection - lots 10 to 12
Władysław Ślewiński was the only Pole in the Pont-Aven school. Madame Władysława Jaworska, a great specialist in the artist, discovered the existence of the Primel-Buffetaud collection in 1962. As she explained in her catalogue published in 1983, this remarkable collection comprised around 170 canvases, almost all of which came directly from the artist's studio. The Primel family maintained a friendly relationship with the Slewinski couple; after the death of her husband, Eugénie entrusted several Slewinski paintings to the Primel family. In 1962, the two sisters, Jeanne Primel-Buffetaud and Marie-Louise Primel-Lagrange, donated around forty works to Polish museums. Today, we are delighted to be auctioning three works from this prestigious collection, which have since been kept by the descendants of the Primel family.
