In Hier (Souvenirs), published in 1946, in the chapter entitled "War of 1914", Halicka recalls her stay in Touraine in 1918: "We finally arrived at La Chapelle-sur-Loire, near Saumur, the destination of our journey, where Lewitzka had booked a room for herself, forgetting I ever existed. [...] Eventually everything settled down in pretty Touraine, where heavy American lorries filled with tall, cheerful, magnificently equipped soldiers drove past with a thunderous roar".
