N.B. Jean-Marie PRADES: Emile Reynaud, father of the cartoon. After being inspired by the work of Plateau (phenakistiscope) and Horner (zootrope), Emile Reynaud filed a patent on 30 August 1877 for his Praxinoscope, also based on the phenomenon of persistence of resin images. In 1878, Emile Reynaud presented the Praxinoscope at the Paris Universal Exhibition. It was a toy, with only one or two people able to admire the dozen or so moving images. The images were painted on a strip of paper, depicting scenes from life and games such as skipping, balancing, learning, etc. (...). Visuals and text " Autour d'une collection 2 " Collection JMP Club Niépce Lumière, p. 247. Expert Isabelle Cazeils. Provenance: Jean-Marie PRADES Collection.
