Description
Daguerre camera, designed by Marc Antoine Gaudin and manufactured by Lerebours (Paris). This camera was intended to compete with the Daguerre camera sold by Giroux. Circa 1841. This chamber is sold with the vials and products. Box size approximately 26 x 23 x 24 cm. As is, the model would have been reconstituted. N.B. Jean-Marie PRADES: Designed by Marc-Antoine Gaudin and manufactured by Lerebours in Paris. 7.2 cm round image. Mr Gaudin's daguerreotype camera is more compact than the one designed by Daguerre and of a much smaller format (1/6th of a plate, approximately 8 x 7 cm), whereas Daguerre's camera is designed for the full 16 x 21 cm plate. Two copper tubes slide into each other to focus the camera. At one end are the lens and the revolver diaphragm, at the other the support for the sensitive plate. The whole assembly is fixed in a wooden box, which also serves as a transport box for the laboratory. Inside this box, we find the equipment needed for daguerreotypy: mercury and iodine box, polisher and the different products: mercury, iodine, bromine, etc. The machine has evolved and is now slightly larger, with the plates inserted in wooden frames. Visual and text in "Autour d'une collection 2" Collection JMP Club Niépce Lumière, p. 14. Expert Isabelle Cazeils. Provenance: Jean-Marie PRADES Collection. Daguerreotype camera.
