Secretan' camera, with 'Lerebours et Secretan Paris' roller lens, circa 1860-65. As is. N.B. Jean-Marie PRADES: Secretan camera. Circa 1860-1865. This camera, originally designed for wet collodion, is now equipped for dry plates. The frame allows two photos to be taken side by side on the same plate in 8.5 x 11 cm format, or a single photo in 11 x 17 cm format. - Marc François Louis Secretan was born in Lausanne on 17 May 1804 (...) With a passion for mathematics, he continued his studies in astronomy and celestial mechanics, and in 1838 was awarded a chair of mathematics at the Lausanne Academy. His passion for science led him to meet Lerebours, with whom he developed a passion for optics, optical instruments and photography. After resigning from his position in Switzerland in 1844, he joined Lerebours in Paris and, a year later, the association was born in the famous house on the Pont-Neuf. (...) Photography particularly attracted Secretan, who wrote a 'Traité de Photographie' in collaboration with Lerebours. The manufacture of engraved photographic cameras and lenses bearing the Lerebours and Secretan engravings was very important (...).
