Bears an aluminium plate stamped ‘Rat der Stadt Ludwigslust 596’ (Ludwigslust Town Council).
Circa 1890

- History: An identical example, from the same Ludwigslust series and bearing the number 667, is held at the MAK in Vienna (inv. H 3642), where it is attributed to the A. M. Luther factory in Reval, based on a German model. Founded in 1877 in Reval by Alexander Martin Luther, this company began supplying plywood sheets as early as 1885 and became one of Europe’s leading producers of birch plywood. It won the Grand Prix at the 1900 Paris World’s Fair and marketed its products under the ‘Luterma’ brand.
