Description
DE PAS Jonathan (1932–1991), D’URBINO Donato (1935), LOMAZZI Paolo (1936), SCOLARI Carla & ZANOTTA (Edited by) ‘Blow’ inflatable armchair, made from high-frequency welded transparent polyvinyl chloride film, with a seat featuring a removable cushion, and a backrest and armrests formed from cylindrical tubes. It comes with a storage box, a foot pump and a repair kit. Model created in 1967 H 72 cm – W 110 cm – D 90 cm - History. The ‘Blow’, the first mass-produced inflatable chair, was unveiled at the Milan Furniture Fair in 1968. It was manufactured using high-frequency welding of cut-to-size PVC sheets, the only process capable of achieving its structure and transparency. Designed to be inexpensive and short-lived – in contrast to the conventional notion of expensive, durable furniture – it immediately became a pop culture icon. Examples of the model are held at the Centre Pompidou in Paris (inv. AM 2007-1-38), the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. - Bibliography: Giuliana Gramigna, ‘1950/1980 Repertorio. Immagini e contributi per una storia dell’arredo italiano’, Milan, Mondadori, 1985, model illustrated on p. 248.
