- History. The ‘Blow’, the first mass-produced inflatable chair, was unveiled at the Milan Furniture Fair in 1968. It was manufactured using high-frequency welding of cut-to-size PVC sheets, the only process capable of achieving its structure and transparency. Designed to be inexpensive and short-lived – in contrast to the conventional notion of expensive, durable furniture – it immediately became a pop culture icon. Examples of the model are held at the Centre Pompidou in Paris (inv. AM 2007-1-38), the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
