A chest of drawers with a central recessed section, made of solid wood and veneer featuring a ‘butterfly wing’ curl pattern in rosewood; the front opens to reveal two drawers in two rows without a crossbar, with rounded sides, and gilded, chiselled bronze ornamentation such as scrolls, laurel wreath-motif pull handles, lock plates, apron and feet, stamped ‘Jean-Baptiste VASSOU’ (1739–1807), who was recognised as a master cabinetmaker in 1767 and awarded the JME mark, from the Transition period, topped with a grey Sainte-Anne marble slab, Dimensions including marble top: 85.8 x 98 x 53 cm (missing key, some chips and gaps in the veneer, signs of wear, a few small chips on the marble).
